Eczema and the Ocean

Bekah and I are currently camping at the beach. It has been a long time since we have been to the beach. Bekah played in the water for about 2 hrs yesterday. When she was finished, she had eczema patches all over her body. She took a shower then applied her creams and ointments. She looked much better this morning. She went back into the water again today. When we got back to the camper, the eczema patches are much worse than yesterday and she is uncomfortable from the eczema break out. Uugghh. Now I am having flashbacks of Bekah when she was little and when she would go into the ocean. I really didn’t think the ocean’s salt water would bother her this badly. Does anyone else’s eczema breakout from being in the ocean?

Do you think it could be from the sand or maybe heat? My DS's eczema flares when we go to the beach during the heat of the summer, but not nearly as much if we go in the spring when it's cooler.

It was in the 80's today but I haven't seen her like this since she was a toddler, so I am not quite sure. With her not taking Atarax anymore, her poor body has been a mess.

I used to take that when I was a kid because I had eczema. One of the things that would cause me to flare was dishwater and most soaps. I had it on both my arms all the way up to my elbows. Maybe it was the salt water? I’m so sorry she’s had a bad flare. Eczema just makes you feel miserable. I hope it clears up quickly!

Thanks Dory! I think it was a combination between the warm weather and the salt water. She is doing a little better today.

Bekah had an appt with her allergist on Tues and unfortunately there isn't anything else we could have done for her eczema. He thinks it was a combination of the warm weather and the salt water. Sigh. Her skin is looking much better.
