Welcome to all the new members!

I was diagnosed about 5 years ago with asthma as an adult.  I've only been in these forums a few months but I've already found people who are willing to listen, offer support and give a listening ear when needed!  Took me a little while before I felt comfortable writing my thoughts here, but have been met with understanding and helpful suggestions of what has worked for others!

Hope it is as helpful for all of you!

Hi everyone! I’m Sydney, I’ve been battling chronic urticaria for 5 years now and all environmental allergies, a few drug allergies, and asthma whichfor the most part I have outgrown!

  • K8sMom2002

Welcome, Sydney — and everyone else! Hugs on the chronic urticaria … have you figured out if there are any triggers that cause it?

  • Sydney

They are usually heat triggered, but sometimes they come randomly. My immunologist just started me on Plaquenil twice a day and I already take Zyrtec twice a day and Singulair.

Welcome everyone!  I'm so sorry that you needed to find us but you have landed with people that TRULY understand what it's like to live life like we do.  I'm Pljohns-adult onset (6 years ago) severe uncontrolled, non allergic asthma (now that's a mouth full!) and a ton of medication allergies including literally every asthma med on the market.  I was lucky/blessed enough to find this forum about a year ago and I can never express how much everyone here has helped.  You will find that this entire group has a ton of super good suggestions, experiences and advise but more than anything, the absolute BEST support system anywhere-hands down.  We all do understand life's challenges and with each other's help, we get through them.  Jump right in and add new topics or jump in on existing ones-doesn't matter-we are always glad for another insight or topic we hadn't thought about.  WELCOME!

Hello to all the new members!

I'm Lisa.  I found these forums last fall and as Lynn says above, they are the most supportive group of people you will find.  I have adult-onset asthma.  Was diagnosed about 5 years ago.  My triggers are strong odors, aerosols, car and diesel exhaust, dust, windy days, cold air, stress, and the list goes on!

Took me a while to gather up the courage to post anything on these forums, but no matter whether you pose a short question or a long 'novel' venting the frustration of dealing with life with asthma, you will receive advice and encouragement from others who either are going through similar times or have been there before.  Leaning on others' shoulders to get through difficult times and in turn being a shoulder to lean on is a great comfort.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello everyone.  Hope the information you find here will help you as it has helped all of us.  I've had allergic asthma my whole life.  From age 10 to 50 only time my asthma effected me was when I had a bad cold, laughed too much or was up and down the stairs too much.  When I was 50 I had a bad asthma attack unknowingly came in contact with an animal and since then my allergies have been uncontrolable, but I'm working it with my Doctors.  With the information I received from this group I was able to question my ENT that I'm currently seeing and was able to try a different drug and approach to control my allergies.  So not matter what don't give up!!!!

  • K8sMom2002

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the warm friendships I've made and the tips and tricks I find on this community forum! and

Hello to all the new members!

I will second everything said above by PLJOHNS above!  This is the very best place to answer questions, get answers and tips, and connect with others who are going through the same challenges in life.

I was diagnosed about 5 years ago with cough-variant, adult onset asthma.  Also have GERD.  I'm on several maintenance meds and always keep my rescue inhaler handy.

Welcome everyone!  We're sorry that you had a need to search out this forum, but so very glad you found us.  I'm Lynn-adult onset, non-allergic severe asthma.  You will find this is the most AMAZING group of people in the world-they ALL actually get what it's like to live like we do-with the daily challenges and issues that no one seems to understand.  I found this forum almost a year ago and can honestly say they have helped me TREMENDOUSLY-no question is ever stupid or too trivial to ask.  Jump in on existing threads or start new ones-we all have a huge variety of experiences and suggestions and ideas and we welcome you to share yours as well.

    Hello to everyone new!

Welcome to the best place to get and give support as we deal with life with asthma!  I'm Lisa and I've been a member on the AAFA website for a few months.  I have cough-variant, adult onset persistent asthma.  Some of my triggers are cold air, strong odors, car and diesel exhaust, dust, and stress.  It took me awhile to feel comfortable posting on these forums but now it's like a second home.  A 'home' where people understand what I'm dealing with and give helpful suggestions and moral support.  Both of which come from the heart since they've walked in my shoes.  Don't know what I would've done at times without the strong shoulders of others to lean on and the encouragement I've received.

Welcome and as @Pljohns said so well above

'We're sorry that you had a need to search out this forum, but so very glad you found us!'
