weekends – do you get a chance to recuperate or do you find that you overdo things?

I know it totally depends on the weekend for me.  This weekend will likely lean towards overdoing things – lacrosse tournaments Saturday and Sunday, plus grocery shopping and other house stuff at some point. Other weekends, I find that I have some down time.

How are weekends for you?  Is your asthma better or worse on the weekends?

I tend to overdo things. I have ADHD and am on meds for it, so I don't know enough to take a break until my asthma flares up because I am so focused

I suppose that's where maybe some of the smartphone apps can help to remind you to take a break – maybe schedule some things on there like walks, reading time, etc.

I have a hard time resting… especially when there is a lot to do.. it is like I cannot rest until this is done, or that is done, and my four year old is on my back… a lot…. SO, I am really trying to find ways and create spaces to rest in…. and it is actually causing me a lot of work… but I feel like I am getting closer, and it is going to be awesome pay-off when it is done.

I am trying to get my yard straightened up enough and set up the right way, so that my son can play, and I can sit on a chair and, like, try to bring a book or magazine outside and read while he runs off his insane amount of energy. Unfortunately, because summer was so hot and long here in Florida, and I have been struggling with my health, and I am the sole caretaker of my house and my self and my son… and I have this ridiculous need to have a garden to TRY to grow food in (I am determined to grow some of my own food)…. there are INSANE amounts of weeds that need to be pulled and areas that need to be mulched, and … did I mention, INSANE amounts of weeds that need to be pulled out…. and I am using a Halloween party as motivation to get all this work done, it is my deadline ( I am hoping I won't be dead by the end of it, that would be BEYOND ironic… as it would be the day of the dead and I could finally Rest In Peace–but NO I am going to make it through ALIVE!) (the party is not this Saturday, but NEXT Saturday…. it is CERTAINLY a lot of work just to relax… but it is just… necessary. So this weekend I am going to kick my own butt.. I am going to wear a mask while I do it, an dlong sleeves and pants… and gloves.. and goggles… but I am venturing into the OUTDOORS to to make it more asthma and allergy friendly… to try, NO to MAKE areas of zen-ness. tomorrow is like the war before the peace… tomorrow is WEED day… and NOT the good kind, hippies! Wish me luck!

I'm with you Shea – I have a hard time resting if I know there are a lot of things to do. Usually, weekends are for catching up on all the stuff I didn't get done during the week!

I was really good this past weekend though – I tried really hard to ignore all the mess and chaos around the house and just rest. I spent Saturday watching Halloween movies. I did some grocery shopping on Sunday and actually took a nap!

  • GigiGibson

Well I looked at all I wanted to do but only got two things done, my hair color and the dogs washed. I spent most of it on the couch or bed cause I couldn't hold my head up

  • Kathy P

I did get my hair cut – which made me feel good overall, so that wasworth the effort!Sorry you had a bleh weekend. Hope you are feeling better today. Do youknow what caused it?

I really don't know for Saturday. Aaron said it was because I had a "just getting by" busy week and now my body said hey let's recoup! Sunday it was cigarette smoke

If I can, I really try to find some way to have a little extra downtime on the weekends, even if I have a big to do list.  Last weekend, though, that just didn't happen since I was at lacrosse tournaments both days.  I wound up taking some down time on Monday morning.  I had big plans to go to the gym (even had my workout clothes on) and chose to take a hot shower and nap instead.  I must've been super wiped out from the weekend because I managed to nap for the better part of 3 hours.  We shall see how this weekend goes.  One bonus is that I don't have to get up early (provided my son isn't up at some early hour).  We are planning to do a lot of work at our old house on Saturday and Sunday.  I also need to take the kids to get pumpkins and we need to carve them.  I usually save the seeds for roasting and cook/puree the guts for baking.  I told my girls that I will do the seeds this year, though they will have to help.  For time and sanity sake, I plan to skip the guts/puree bit.  If the girls insist, I will give them directions and let them have at it.  I just have to draw the line somewhere, particularly since I've been fighting a cold.

  • Shea

Yes, take care of yourself! The line needs to be drawn somewhere, I drew my line on the yard and halloween stuff… kinda…. :/ I have to bake tomorrow, and I HAVE to, because my son and I both have food allergies and we need cupcakes,  its too difcupcak to do storebought, plus its more storebough fir me to bake them. Hopefully we wont make a giant mess. Today I wore myself out just taking my son to story craft, doing a walk, and grocery shopping. I am gna rest up now though.

on the cold, Jen! You probably needed the nap!

Shea, I hear you on baking from scratch when you have food allergies!

  • Jen

Yep.  Dd1 has a peanut allergy, so we do plenty of baking at our house.  Good part is that my girls have learned a lot of baking skills and do most of it on their own.  Dd2 is making cupcakes as I type.

  • Jen

Well…I did get to sleep in a bit both Saturday and Sunday.  We were super busy, though, with cleaning out our old house and some Halloween prep.
