Pleurisy and asthma

Hi guys. Have not been on for awhile.  Had to go to hospital 5 weeks ago with chest pain. Diagnosed as pleurisy for no apparent reason.  Since it's an inflamation of the lining of the lungs I thought it could cause a **** of an asthma flare.  I was right.  Dr. is really pushing for no more pred.  Off it now but asthma getting worse.  Anyone ever have pleurisy?

Oh my Richard! Has the dr given you a different care plan? Has he offered you other asthma medications instead of the prednisone?

I'm always on Advair, Spiriva and Singular.  And Xolair shots.  Albuteral, too.  Was doing well but the pleurisy caused a big setback.  Strange, I've never found a connection of pleurisy and asthma on the web.

Gracious, Richard … I hope you feel better soon. I understand pleurisy can be extremely painful. Idiopathic pleurisy and viral pleurisy seem to be the most common types … frustrating for those who deal with these because with the first, there's no definite cause that can be identified, and with the second, it's a viral infection which doesn't respond to antibiotics.

Many doctors now are concerned with the long-term side-effects of prednisone. How long have you been on the Xolair? Have you experienced less need for prednisone since you've been taking Xolair?

    Hi Richard,

I got pleurisy a couple years ago. You have my sympathies and hope the pain clears soon.

Best wishes for some restful sleep,
