Labor Day weekend plans

So…what do people have going on this weekend?

I'll be spending some more time packing/moving.  It's supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow, so we will see how much time I want to spend loading/unloading the van.

Tell us about your plans for the long weekend…

Well, turning this into a "what I did Labor Day weekend …"

I wound up taking DD and a friend shopping Saturday — they were in heaven, and I sat in the mall and read a book while they window-shopped.

Sunday I totally ruined DD's afternoon by making her take a practice PSAT test … but I'm glad I did. Turns out her reading level is not where it needs to be for her to easily get through the verbal portions of the test, and we have some work to do in order to do her best not just on the SAT but during her coursework in college. She lost her love of reading years ago due to a weird rewards system that totally killed off her love of books. So I spent part of the weekend trying to figure out some books for her to read in order for her to improve.

Monday we grilled out — my sis and I barbecued chicken on the grill and had it ready when DH came in from work. We had potato salad and green beans and a chocolate pudding pie to go with it. I'm STILL stuffed.

I never got to the gardening…my allergies were flared, so I decided not to chance it.Did get some work done on T's college list. We found that all the ones he's looking at take common app which is good. Still need to list our all the deadlines. T takes either the ACT or subject tests this weekend.

It was that transition to the new SAT and that "unknown" plus the ACTseems to fit his "style" better. I don't recall what he got on the PSAT- all our kids take them in 10th grade. But that would have been modeledon the old SAT anyway. He did well on the ACT, but is going to take itagain to see if he can do better. It's higher than needed for most ofthe schools he's looking at, but since his grades and test scores don'tcorrelate all the time, he needs all the help he can get!

Are there any practice tests out there for the ACT? I'm wondering if DD wouldn't do a little better on a more straightforward test. From what I understand, the ACT covers harder topics, but the questions are more straightforward.

And oops on hijacking the thread!

I wound up spending most of the time packing/moving.  Still lots to do…sigh… But, that's what happens when life goes on (work, school for the kids, sports, current house stuff) while you are trying to get extra stuff done.    Still, it was nice to have the extra time over the 3 day weekend.

My DH keeps saying things about moving after DD graduates from high school. Uh, no. I hate moving!
