Just checked , and lots of areas are in red and orange on the West Coast.

Hoping that folks in the affected areas are able to stay indoors today!

Adding here a link to as well — just in case any of those fires get close enough that some of our folks have to evacuate …

Thanks, Cynthia, for starting this conversation. I hope our community members in the affected areas are doing ok as well. from the EPA and its air quality monitoring site, , on minimizing exposure to smoke during wildfires.

Additionally, one of the things that can help maintain good indoor air quality is an air purifier. I use an asthma & allergy friendly certified air purifier myself to reduce asthma symptoms from a bunch of different allergy triggers in my home (pet dander, dust, mold spores, pollens), and find it very helpful. I only got it a few months ago, and am hoping it helps a lot with ragweed allergies this year!  Air purifiers can help with particulates from wildfire smoke, too.

And in case you were wondering… The asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification Program, administered by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) in partnership with the international research organization, Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), is an independent program created to scientifically test and identify consumer products that are more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. You can find certified products and services like air purifiers, carpet cleaning, flooring, vacuums and more at

Checking back in and hoping folks like @glyncor are doing better with the fires in the Pacific Northwest. I know that @Mandy has mentioned having to deal with the smoke from the PNW fires … have things improved?

Things are much better.  Thank you for asking.  We got a little rain last week that helped clear the air for breathing.  Then a front came through that seemed to change the direction of airflow and we are no longer getting the smoke in our valley.  The fires are still going and we are all hoping that rain expected in by Sunday will help with the fires.  So, we are breathing again in parts of Oregon.

Still a campfire here in the prairies. Waiting for the rain they keep predicting. Fingers crossed. I am antsy to get out of the house. I can't even open the door without a mask on.

It is miserable when it gets like that.  You start to feel like a prisoner cause you can't escape the house.  Are you in California?

Ugh, Mandy — I hate that for you. I'm like Jen — hoping rain will get there very soon! Is the wind at least blowing it away from you some of the time?

@glyncor, is the air still clearing up? Are you guys able to move about any easier?

@Mandy, I think I saw you mention on some other thread that you guys had finally gotten some rain, right? Or is that just wishful thinking for you on my part?

Things are looking up for us.  It has been raining off and on for a few days with some snow in the mountains.  This should do well for fire fighters.  No breathing issues in our valley.  We expect rain through Friday.  Yay!

Oh, glyncor, so happy for you! And for the fire fighters! I know your lungs are rejoicing, too!

@glyncor, I'm really hoping that the current fires in California aren't affecting you … but with that much smoke in the air, I'd be surprised if it wasn't. How are things going?
