Asthma and Allergy Friendly Holiday Season in 2017?

So the turkey is toast and everyone (but me!) is putting up their Christmas trees or getting ready for Chanukah … inspire me, because I so am dreading unpacking my tree! Martha Stewart I am NOT.

I don't usually put up my Christmas tree until the first Saturday in December. We use a "fake" tree because of DD's allergies and asthma. Even though she's not allergic to Christmas trees, the growing/blooming/budding out season down here in Georgia means that any real tree is covered in grass pollen. SO not good!

A couple of years back, I lucked into a GORGEOUS pre-lit tree that assembles in three pieces in an after Christmas sale. It's one of those that you can switch from either white lights (my fave) to colored lights (my DH's fave) or back and forth (uh, no, definite migraine inducer!). When we first put it up, I made a deal with DH — he could have the lights multi-colored when I wasn't home. Now, though, I try to let him have it on colored more, because I am ALWAYS home.

Beyond the tree, I am a disappointment to my DD, who loves Christmas. She so should have had my sister (THREE Christmas trees and door decorations for every interior door in the house!) for a mom.

How do you decorate for the holiday season? What tips and tricks do you use to keep it allergy and asthma friendly?

Inspire me with photos and ideas so that I can be a tiny bit more like Martha and make my 16 YO happy!

We also have a fake tree-DH is seriously allergic to evergreen anything and it's a trigger for me but I do miss the lovely smell of a live tree!  This year will be an all out assault on decorating-DS#2 is having a Christmas party at the house and wants it to look nice.  This weekend will be spent putting up 2 trees (we normally only do 1 but he wants one in the basement where his party will be) and fully decorating the house in addition to giving it a good cleaning.  He has agreed to help decorate inside and then held DH outside-we may end up looking like Christmas Vacation when it's all done

Griswaldville! I don't do much decorating outside because I hate taking it all down and putting it away!

Maybe you could get one of those light shower deals??

The deal is-if DS wants it up, he will help put it up AND take it down!  DH would love to have Griswaldworld, but he hates to take it down by himself so DS will have to help if he wants it up.  I don't mind taking down wreaths and garland around the door but anything else-it's up to the guys.

Lynn, taking it all down by himself is what broke my DH from his own tour of Griswaldville! He did it for a few years when DD was small, but hated the taking down part of it (lights along our rail fence, lights on cedar trees … and it was colored lights, too … )

I'm happy that we're going for a more restrained and refined look nowadays!

And I'd be even happier if I could have a magic elf to come and white tornado my house … honestly, this place is nowhere NEAR ready for a Christmas tree!

I did NOT get my tree up this weekend … I'm hoping that I can do it either Friday night or Saturday, but we shall see.

Ooh, I need to share this! It's where people can win an air cleaner and floor cleaner package!

@Katie D gave me the idea of giving our home a Christmas gift — it's a gift to make things better and more allergy-friendly for the whole family. So off I went looking to see what would be a good gift for our healthier home … and I found THIS:

… which gives folks the opportunity to enter daily for several air purifiers (like an LG or a Rabbit Air) and a Bona floor cleaner package!

And because I know everyone is super busy, here's the until December 15!

Edited the link that was broken — oops!

I wanted to update this to say, "ta-da!"  I have my tree up and decorated (did it this weekend after much procrastination.) I even (with some prodding and help from my sis) got my garland up on the front porch. But I haven't hung my wreath yet — just thought about that!

I still have to wrap presents … gosh, there's a lot to do. I think I'll go start a new topic on managing stress and to-do lists! I could use all the tips people can give me!
