Asthma and allergies

Hello. I hope everyone is doing well. I am doing better except this time it's my allergies acting up instead of my asthma. But give it time, my asthma knows how to find me lol. How is everyone else doing?

My allergies are behaving right now — mainly because I'm in that rare time of year between all the trees blooming out and the fall weeds like ragweed and goldenrod. My DD, on the other hand, is pretty stuffed up, so I'm thinking some of her least favorite weeds must be blooming.

What do you take for your allergies? Does that help reduce your asthma "triggers?"

My allergies are really bad right now…and I think I have a cold on top of things! Hopefully the combo won't trigger an asthma flare.

I take zyrtec, flonase, ipratropium bromide nasal spray for my allergies. They work most of the time, But sometimes I still get stuffed up. Didn't have a flare up with my asthma today thank god

I take Xyzal and Flonase for the allergies. If things are bad, I'll add Allegra in the morning. I also have OTC allergy eye drops.

I started taking Butterbur extract which actually seems to help – in general, I find it works about as well as the Allegra. So, I'm finding I have to take that less often. We have an article on: As always, discuss any supplements with your doctor.

Today isn't going to be as bad yesterday. I can usually tell what kind of day it's going to be based on the weather and if I wake up sniffling and stuffy. Luckily today it's all under control. How are yours today?

I have not ventured outdoors today … we shall see. I do have to go shopping for groceries, so that means I have to brave the detergents and cleaners aisle.

But I think I'm doing okay. Yay for the good days! They are certainly gifts, aren't they?

What do you plan on using your "good day" for?

  • Shea

I used my good day for Target! I cannot go into Kohl's or try on their clothes without having some type of reaction. Old Navy bothers my system too. But good old Target I found some clothes on sale, got groceries, and took my 4 year old to Pizza Hut all with getting in and outta the car only once. It is hot out there!

Yay, Shea! I wonder what it is about Kohl's and Old Navy that gives you trouble. Is it just that Old Navy and Kohl's or every single location?

I am using another one of my good day a to do my homework for my online college classes!! I hope everyone is having a good day as well

So far, so good here.  The weather has cooled off a lot (only supposed to be 70's today), so the air doesn't have that "heavy" feeling that it did over the weekend.  We spent some time moving furniture over the weekend and it was rough with the hot weather.  I felt like I could barely keep up with staying hydrated.  We did try to take breaks mid-day when it was super hot.  All the moving also seems to have caused my allergies to act up some – lots of post nasal drip icky feeling and some sinus congestion.  I'm sure the dust has a lot to do with it.  Probably time to get the sinus rinses going.

Cynthia – I hear you about the cleaning products aisle.  Starts my nose itching and my eyes watering every time.  My girls don't like it either.  Seems like that aisle has gotten worse over the last couple years.  It never used to be quite so potent.

lol, K8smom, that yaay made me smile  Im glad I found this topic. Yeah, Im not sure why, but I just cannot seem to try on clothes anymore without breaking out, and some stores have a stronger chemical smell and cause worse reactions for me. I read some articles before on formeldyde in clothing, and to avoid fire retardent clothing, lots of places spray clothes to make them wrinkle resistant, etc. I cannot even be in Kohls snymore without my face becoming flush and my asthma getting really bad… they are perfumy too. Same with those cleaning aisles, usually the green products are at the end of the aisle so that is helpful, or I go to whole foods which only has the green ones, or just mix my own vinegar baking soda blends sometimes too.. or I hold my breath.

I hadn't thought about the stuff that is sprayed on clothes… but you're right, some clothes do have a stronger scent than others.

I make a lot of my own cleaning supplies, as well. What's some of your favorite "recipes?"

Good evening everyone! My allergies and asthma have been under control for a couple of days now!! This rarely happens so I guess I shouldn't press my luck. How is everyone else doing?

  • Kathy P

That's awesome Emillee! Many of us have been posting our updates on the thread.
