Eye Allergies

Yuck, my eyes feel like I have sand in them! They are so itchy! Anyone else miserable with eye allergies?

I'm trying an Rx eye drop that the eye doc gave me. That seems to be helping, but still itchy and gritty.

One problem is that we don't have AC, so rely on ceiling fans and that just keeps the allergens circulating.

We wash bedding weekly, try to keep the dust level down (laminate floor that is easy to go over with a Swiffer). It seems t be worse in the afternoon which probably makes sense since that's when the winds pick up. On days when it's really hit, we close the windows and I think that might help.

Not sure what else I can reasonably do.

I have allergic conjunctivitis.  I use patanol twice a day, as well as lubricant drops 2-4 times a day as needed.  It definitely helps keep things in check.

The Rx drops are once a day. Maybe I need to add lubricant drops through the day to flush things out.

Hugs on the discomfort and the gritty feeling!

Are you sure that it's "just allergies?" There are other conditions that could be making this worse when combined with your allergy. Or could it actually be a side effect from the drops? Have you talked to your doctor or pharmacist about it? That would be a good place to start.

I was just to the eye doctor 2 weeks ago and he did a thorough check I have funky eyes, so he tends to do a really aggressive check of everything!

My opthamalogist says that it's the combo of the 2 types of drops that helps best.  He does have me wait 5 mins or so between the 2 different types of drops so that one doesn't flush the other out.

That sounds reasonable to wait so you don't flush one out with the other. I need to start carrying the lubricant drops with me so I can use them when I need them.My allergies are horrible on vacation and I forgot the Pazeo at home. Grrr!

Kathy P, just wondering how things are going with your eyes … has the gritty feeling passed? Did you ever figure out what was triggering things?

It varies by day! It's definitely worse if we have the ceiling fan on high especially overnight. And we have a heat wave, so running all the fans on all day and night. But the drops do help.

Ugh on the heat wave — what do you think happens with the ceiling fans? Do you think the draft is drying out your eyes?

    Glad the drops are helping!

Does anyone else deal with eye allergies?  What medication do you use for eye allergies?
